5.11 Best Boots for Hot Weather

Let’s talk about something that’s a little different today. Boots.

As locksmiths, we put in a lot of hours and so we’re constantly on our feet. We’re on our feet in all sorts of weather. Today we’re going talk about my 5.11 boots that I wear all the time. The 5.11 Tactile six inch Coyote boot. They’re water resistant. I promise, these boots are water proof because I’ve been in water in them and I still got my feet dry. These boots are over five years old. And I use them daily. I have two pairs of these boots, as I alternate them. I had to put in some inserts. They just seems to make your feet feel better. And they are super-comfortable.

Two of my 5.11 Best Boots for Hot Weather

I was heading to the Philippines and that place is hot and humid. It’s absolutely terrible on the feet. I’m not a flip flop person, because I like my feet protected so I can’t walk around with flip flops. These 5.11 Tactile six inch Coyote boots are meant for hot, humid, even desert environments. I wore these for almost ten weeks straight. Every single day, in the jungle, on the water, heading to little islands (if you saw, I was in McArthur Park where general McArthur landed). I went up the hill (a bunch of hills where they had to attack bunkers, Japanese-held bunkers). This 5.11 Tactile six inch Coyote boot what I had on my feet. Although I didn’t see any snakes, there’s lots of snakes there that are bad. But it was so hot, and these were absolutely fantastic. I wore them and so I thought next time I go down to Florida, Texas, I’m gonna be wearing these. These are my go-to boots now in the summer time. They’ve got this antibacterial stuff, and all sorts of bits and pieces. You can read about it online. These were super comfortable. I definitely recommend this. I’m heading back to Asia and I’m wearing these. I bought a second pair. I always like to alternate my shoes, so I’ll have these again, because they’re FANTASTIC.

5.11 Best Boots for Hot Weather 2

However, I think the only downside, when I jumped off of a boat into the salt water, I got both wet, and it didn’t take that. It took probably about four hours in the sun to dry ’em out. And it kinda pissed me off a little bit. It means that it’s not meant to go in the water. You’re gonna get wet feet if you do that. Nevertheless, for 99% of what I did, these were absolutely fantastic. The water resistance might not  be that good but, they’re so comfortable I don’t wanna add anything to them. So, if anybody has any good ideas on a boot that’s good for super hot, humid, almost desert-y jungle conditions, that has some water resistance, I’d be really interested in knowing because that’s the only downside of these boots. Other than that, 99.9% absolutely fantastic. Super super comfortable. I liked it so much that I bought a second pair. And again, this is different and nothing to do with locksmithing, but we gotta have comfortable feet. I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Subscribe to my channel. Unboxing Lock Tech GM Ignition Removal Tools

So we have a new “toy”, from LockTech. Instead of an unboxing, we will call it an “unbagging”. It’s a full set from AccuReader LockTech. And this is the ignition removal tools. A onewhole set, is all four of them. Rather than buy one at a time, just buy the whole thing. It would save you some money. And again, this is an unbagging, not unboxing. It has never been opened, and it will be the first time of us “playing” with it. We’ve been using AccuReader LockTech’s tools for years, so it is the first time getting like the whole little set here.

So get that there. It is a total unbagging. They’re easy to tell apart which is kinda cool. So we’ve got a blue side, a yellow side, a green one with a toy. So we got the whole set here of four. Most of their products,  by the way are extremely well made. So it does the trick. And we’ll show this in action, this is just an unbagging today, we’ll show it in action down the road.

These four different tools, they call it the V1, V2, V3, V4. And this’ll take out the ignitions on a whole lot of cars like the Chevrolet Cruzes, Chevrolet Colorado, Silverado, the Alero. It is an interesting tool for me. It’s removing the ignition cylinders from GM vehicles without drilling or damaging which is very cool. We’ve had their other products even before. Some of these are earlier ones, but they’re as fantastic. Instructions comes with the bag.

All four (4) of GM Ignition Removal Tools Set

We’ll post some videos of us playing with this. So I hope that helps a little bit. We will play with some ignitions later, but right now this is just an unbagging of a brand new “toy” from AccuReader LockTech for us. I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Subscribe to my channel. “I shall return” MacArthur Park in Philippines | Mr. Locksmith http://www.becomealocksmith.info/shall-return-macarthur-park-philippines-mr-locksmith/ Mon, 16 Apr 2018 18:02:21 +0000 https://www.mrlocksmith.com/?p=4031 “I shall return” MacArthur Park in Philippines | Mr. Locksmith

For further information go to Mr. Locksmith website.

I (Terry Whin-Yates) had a fun trip to the Philippines and I visited where General MacArthur made his historic landing in Leyte Philippines.

On October 20, 1944, a few hours after his troops landed, MacArthur waded ashore onto the Philippine island of Leyte. That day, he made a radio broadcast in which he declared, “People of the Philippines, I have returned!” In January 1945, his forces invaded the main Philippine island of Luzon.

The invasion had the largest Naval battle of World War 2 and the first Kamikaze attack.

Lots of very good documentaries on the numerous battles and incredible bravery of the American and Filipino troops.

General MacArthur said “I shall return” and he did. The US Navy basically bomb the heck out of Leyte and the interesting other parts, there are better other documentaries you should see, this was the biggest naval war battle in the entire World War II. This is where the Japanese put in the last stand fight. Basically, Leyte’s in the middle of the Philippines. This cut off the southern and the northern part of the Japanese navy. They came in here in mass. There was a massive naval battle, and it’s unreal when you hear about the documentaries on this, but basically a few ships, where they were told to retreat, they actually went in, right into the middle and they fought like heck and they actually discouraged the Japanese so bad they pulled off, and then the American Navy just wiped them out. The landing here, this beach, is actually called Red Beach from all the blood that was split here. Now the reason MacArthur came here, it’s smack in the middle. He could cut off the oil to Japan, but more importantly, five kilometers from here is the airbase in Tacloban. , The airstrip that’s still here to this day and is now a modern Airport. They took them a while to get it. They actually, over a hundred thousand Japanese troops died defending, to the last it was kamikazes, and the Americans lost 15 thousand plus men taking this area, taking the airfield, and then moving their way up to Ormoc to get the deepwater port so they could invade on the way to Manila. The other interesting thing, here was one of the first kamikaze attack that actually, the very first kamikaze attack was out here in this general area in the navy there. There was twenty Japanese special planes set up with 500 pounds of TNT. They had 20 of them. They couldn’t find anybody for a long time. Finally, they did find a ship, and that was the very first of the kamikazes, so it just shows how desperate they were. But again, biggest naval battle in World War II. There’s dozens and dozens of ships, hundreds of ships around the whole area. It basically broke the back of the Japanese Navy. They had no more large aircraft carriers before this battle. This cleaned off everything else they had, every other small aircraft carrier, took out some of their biggest destroyers, cruisers, everything. And again, it was just a few ships, American ships, that basically turned the tide that could’ve been a big slaughter out here. And again, they got the airfield. The interesting thing is, this area is famous for Yolanda, which was the biggest typhoon, the biggest winds ever recorded on Earth. Basically, the Americans wanted to get off of here as quick as they could because the weather, it rains and it’s so bad they couldn’t get the air covers they wanted so they got their foothold here, and then they moved all the way up to Manila. So again, I hope you enjoy the pictures here, and again, very very famous spot. This is MacArthur Memorial Park. It’s very popular as you can see, and it’s a great park and it’s really interesting history here, and all around here. I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Subscribe to my channel. How to Change Toyota Remote Battery | Mr. Locksmith Video http://www.becomealocksmith.info/change-toyota-remote-battery-mr-locksmith-video/ Thu, 15 Mar 2018 20:27:36 +0000 https://www.mrlocksmith.com/?p=3991 How to Change Toyota Remote Battery | Mr. Locksmith Video

For further information go to http://mrlocksmith.com/

Changing Toyota Remote Battery

This is a three-button Toyota remote. Very, very simple. Just lock, unlock and it’s got the panic button on the inside, which I didn’t see at first. This one’s for the older Toyotas. When you look at it, there’s no screws, there’s no screws anywhere on it. It’s pretty much sealed except for at the back, you can see. Not a dime would fit in that, so we use a little flat-head screwdrivers. I’m gonna use my Leatherman. But, you just can’t twist it out. You gotta slide it out because it’s got the little tabs over it. It has an extremely popular battery. The battery is a CR2032. Popular for a lot of different remotes, remote-head keys and proxes.

To put the battery in, you just gotta slide it in and that’s perfect. So we’ve done a very good weather stripping on this. So there we go. There is our Toyota remote.

Mr. Locksmith CR2032

Steps on how to change a Toyota remote battery:

  • First, see if it had the ring on. If so, just take the ring off.
  • Use your Leatherman or flathead screwdriver. There’s no screws. You can tell by looking at it.
  • Just give it a little twist (make sure you don’t take much force).
  • And make sure to do it without everything falling every which way.

There we go. That’s a nice one. Just make sure that you didn’t spill everything when you twist it. Again, we have to slide this battery out. Don’t twist and pull. We’ve got little metal tabs over the battery. Just slide it out, and it comes out nicely. The CR2032, is an extremely popular for Toyota remote battery. And, I mostly just use Energizers or Duracell batteries. I don’t like the dollar store stuff that much as I prefer the better quality. The dollar store doesn’t usually sell Duracells, or Energizers. I usually find Walmart has the cheapest, the least expensive parts. If you lose track of which way it goes because there’s no positive or negative, few tips – The little contacts always go to the opposite to the plus (or the writing). Just slide the battery back in. Slide it in nicely. And then just clip it together. On the video, it came apart a lot nicer the second time around. I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Subscribe to my channel.

MVP PRO Auto Key Programmer Review | Mr. Locksmith Automotive http://www.becomealocksmith.info/mvp-pro-auto-key-programmer-review-mr-locksmith-automotive/ Tue, 28 Nov 2017 15:38:14 +0000 https://www.mrlocksmith.com/?p=3955 Automotive Locksmith MVP PRO Auto Key Programmer Review | Mr. Locksmith Automotive

For further information go to www.mrlocksmith.com

My daily Auto Key Programmer is the HotWire and the MVP Pro. I am on the unlimited token plan for both programmers. For the past 5+ years, I have been purchasing and testing “Offshore Auto Key Programmers.”

I have several Off Shore MVP clones. The price was so low, we keep on testing to see if any Off Shore Key Programmer could replace our existing programmers.

The MVP Clones are poorly made and no consistency or reliability with the software.

One Off Shore clone will program Ford and Chrysler but not Honda. Another identical clone will do Honda but not some Fords.
Another clone may work on a Nissan, but no one unit will do everything. It’s just been a zero.

So we kept on buying these, kept on testing them. Our dongles would break. The units would break. They’d fall apart. The software was inconsistent.

However, we found one clone that consistently worked well with Honda reflashes, specifically the 1998-2002 Honda Preludes.

In the early day we were just trying to save tokens, and really did we save any money? No, the clones were not good. There’s no consistency.

But again, if you don’t try, you don’t know. And there are some good units out there that the Chinese are coming out with now that are making some of the good stuff look bad.

Some of the new offshore auto key programmers they are using their own software, their own designs, and they are not clones or scammer units. Some of the Off Shore Key Programmers actually seem to be getting there.

Well, they’re coming out with nice updates on them, so they are becoming consistent.

The thing is with everything, you could have an Offshore made, really good programmer, and now they have counterfeit units of that that are total garbage.

So why are some of these Auto Key Programmers $300 and the other unit’s $50? The $50 unit is a total clone and it’s a total piece of garbage. How do you know? You don’t. That’s the big problem.

One way to find out is if you read the automotive forums.

Talk to other Locksmiths and view our videos.

The various plugins quality was all over the map. Some very good forums on Facebook, KeyPro website, ClearStar, etc.

So far, again, we’ve talked about this before, our go-to units are the MVP Pro and Hotwire.

Review Hot Wire Automotive Key Programmer | Mr. Locksmith Blog http://www.becomealocksmith.info/review-hot-wire-automotive-key-programmer-mr-locksmith-blog/ Thu, 23 Nov 2017 15:05:01 +0000 https://www.mrlocksmith.com/?p=3938 Review Hot Wire Automotive Key Programmer | Mr. Locksmith Blog

For further information go to http://mrlocksmith.com/

Mr. Locksmith Automotive is reviewing the Hot Wire Automotive Key Programmer. I absolutely love this product. It was one of the first programmers I bought. We use two major Automotive Key Programmer, the MVP Pro and we the Hot Wire.

Hot Wire is it is PC based. It goes through a box and it plugs into the OBDC unit. It’s the most idiot-proof key programmer you can find out there.

The interface is so simple you don’t even need to read the manual. All you do is pick out your year, make, and model and plug it in. Turn the key to run and hit enter. The interface is unbelievably good. I absolutely love this. For beginners or advanced automotive locksmiths.

The MVP Pro is the bleeding edge and can do more autos. However, the Hot Wire is easier, quicker to use but again we had the other day where the MVP Pro wouldn’t program a vehicle, the Hot Wire did it.

In the past, I had two Mustangs side by side, same year, same model. The Hot Wire would program one but wouldn’t program the other. The MVP Pro would program the other unit but wouldn’t program the one that the Hot Wire would do. That’s a constant battle with cars. It happens.

We are making keys to cars every single day. This is what we find and we can’t do without two programmers. Nobody can.

That is why we keep on trying some of the offshore versions just to see how they go. We’re always evaluating them.

Again, if you are starting out and you’re coming into a good standard unit, this is the way to go. It’s simple, it’s easy, it’s to the point, and you can’t make a mistake. You really cannot make a mistake.

I love the tablet-based Hot Wire because it’s all in one unit.

We are subscription based on one of our Hot Wires and one we have purchased the software for the most popular autos.

No matter what anybody says, we haven’t found one key programmer that does everything.

If the manufacturer’s want to disagree, I’m waiting for that holy grail. That one machine.

Open Sentry Safe in Less than 5 Seconds! |Mr. Locksmith™ Video

As an entrepreneur and Locksmith, one of the most sought after marketing anomalies is the creation of the viral video. However, this YouTube video was put together at the last minute. Terry Whin-Yates was giving a talk at a Local Meetup in Vancouver and at the last minute asked a friend and videographer to video the presentation. The talk and video was all just “off the cuff” and not ideal sound or even lighting. The video was posted to YouTube and within 4 days hit 1 Million views. Terry’s phone went wild with calls from News Organizations from all over the World. NOte: One year later Sentry Safes changed the design of their Electronic Fire Safes, however, Terry has a new “workaround” to open the safe. Stay tuned for more videos.

The customer was broken into in East Vancouver. The burglars just kicked the door in. Very common Break and Enter in Vancouver. You can see the door was broken and the cheap Off-Shore deadbolt just failed. Unfortunately, too many of these inexpensive deadbolts ($10-$45) are installed in Vancouver, sometimes on new condos and new buildings.

Mike from Mr. Locksmith Vancouver rather than replace the door he installed a Mag Plate / Door Reinforcer (doubles the strength of the door) and a new Schlage Deadbolt (B660) with the Commerical Grade C123 Key and Cylinder. The Schlage Deadbolt is one of our favorite deadbolts.

We call this our Vancouver Special. The door frame did not need a 18″ Strike Plate installed on the door frame because it was metal.

We have so many break-ins in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland we call this the “Vancouver Special.”  The Mr. Locksmith “Vancouver Special” is a Schlage heavy-duty, commercial-grade deadbolt or High-Security Abloy of Schlage Primus Deadbolt. It could be the high-security, pick-resistant lock or the 600 series Schlage. Absolutely love this. My dad was installing similar locks to this 50+ years ago and this install is still very effective against Forced Entry Brute Force attacks and kick-ins. The door reinforcer that goes the front, the edge, and the back of the door makes it hard to kick in and the door twice as strong against Forced Entry. The 18″ Strike plate with the 3-inch screws installed into the stud makes the door harder to kick in. This is a good and solid.

This is a typical aluminum or steel metal door with wood frame. We are going to put a Vancouver Special on here. We are going to change the Weiser deadbolt or any deadbolt, to a heavy-duty Schlage. We’re going to put a door reinforcer on the door to make the door harder to kick and we’re going to put a security plate on the edge of the door.

If you just look at the front of the door here and this is a typical install we see in everywhere, in most condos nowadays you have only one door. We have a residential-grade deadbolt that you can buy at any Home Depot store and just a lever handle or knob set

Again, this is the typical light-duty deadbolt. We have the metal frame with wood down the center and the thumb turn on the inside. A lot of times on these doors when they kick the door in the bolt will just break off or this whole door here will just split open. Sometimes as well on the strike this whole door will be kicked open so this one’s at least okay. It has 3-inch screws in there so that’s good, but if you look at the hole they haven’t even drilled it in 1 inch so this door has never locked properly. It’s a poor install from before so we’ll put on a strike plate on here.

This is the door reinforcer or a mag plate and Donjo makes them too. It makes the door harder to kick in so when you saw the metal edges of the wood this will fit on the door and it will make it harder to, for the door to split when somebody tries to kick it in. This also offers some protection against ice pick attack. The door reinforcer doubles the strength of the door so it just makes it harder to kick in and for these doors to spread open.

Install the door reinforcer and install 3-inch screws we’ll catch the stud in the door frame. This makes the door harder to kick in so we’ll install this on here, put in the 3-inch screws, 3 inch screws all the way down and it will make the doorway harder to kick in.

You can see in the video how the door reinforcer goes right around the edge of the door, the back of the door. We have the good, Schlage 600 series deadbolt in there. It’s a commercial grade. Same locks used in hospitals, schools and Universities and it doesn’t look like a monster lock. It fits in well. Some people like the full plate down here. We never install the deadbolts below the handle, hate it. Deadbolts always go here or higher. This was just, we took out the old Weiser deadbolt, or light-duty deadbolt, we put in a heavy-duty deadbolt. And this will make the door harder to kick in and again some, some people sometimes ill put the full plate. This customer just wanted that plate and again the door is way harder to kick in-

The new Schlage Everest lock system has 6 pins. It’s got the side pin, really hard to pick, hard to bump and difficult to pick. Actually, we don’t have a good time picking these.

There is the plate. You have the 3-inch screw and screw all the way into the stud. It’s a well-built house so it’s got the good frame and now that will make the doorway harder to kick in

The Schlage C123 or S123 key and cylinder is a 6 pin Schlage and very hard to pick open but not impossible. It is not rated as pick-resistant. The one up, Schlage Primus lock is UL rated as pick resistant, drill resistant, but this a perfect Vancouver Special install. A higher quality lock would be the Abloy Protec 2 Deadbolt.

Electronic door locks are typically battery powered with a battery life of around 2 years depending on use. If the batteries run out you can always a mechanical key to allow access. Some models have an exterior 9 Volt battery hookup to allow emergency power. Most models give an audible beep before the batteries go dead allowing approximately 80 openings depending on use. Note: only use quality brand name alkaline batteries. Mr. Locksmith highly recommends Duracell batteries.

One of the most versatile Electronic Commercial grade Lever Access Control Lock is the NDE wireless locks. The NDE locks can be stand-alone or integrated into popular electronic access control systems. This is my go-to lock for most customers who need an access control system. Many customers start with one lock and can expand to hundreds of doors. Customers include restaurants, retail, small and large business, hospitals, schools, Airbnb, apartment buildings, the list is endless. The NDE locks are very affordable, cost-effective, expandable and durable.

A more robust and great Electronic locks for growing or larger facilities is the Schlage CO 200 Access Control Lock.

One of my favorite residential Electronic Locks is the Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt makes daily life easier and more convenient. Enter an access code on the touchscreen to unlock the door instead of searching your pockets for keys. Pairing the lock with your smartphone over Bluetooth® is as easy as pairing your phone with your car, and the free Schlage Sense app makes setting up and using the lock as simple as checking email. Share access with trusted friends and family with just a few taps – no more keeping track of spare keys
