High Security Locks – Become a Locksmith http://www.becomealocksmith.info Locksmith College Thu, 06 Dec 2018 22:15:00 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=5.0.21 Locksmith Calgary Gets Nailed By a Smart Accountant http://www.becomealocksmith.info/locksmith-calgary-gets-nailed-smart-accountant/ Sun, 18 Nov 2018 16:02:10 +0000 https://mrlocksmith.com/?p=5024 Locksmith Calgary gets nailed by a smart accountant who refuses to fall for their scam

Day-in and day-out, we hear horror stories from our customers who almost got scammed by a scammer locksmith. Unfortunately, many times, people fall for the scams of these criminals.

Today, a very smart Calgary accountant did what we suggest everyone to do, think and refuse to pay. Mariya Savchyshyn owns a condo in Calgary and rents it out. She said her tenants asked her to replace their lock, and a Google search listed Locksmith Calgary at the top, so she called them without doing her searches to see that they are a scammer locksmith.

Finding out if a locksmith company is a scam is quite easy, here are a few simple steps from Terry Whin-Yates to catch them.

Tips from Terry Whin-Yates on spotting a locksmith scammer

  1. Do they provide unbelievably cheap pricing? The $29, $19, $39 dollar locksmith ads are a scam.
  2. Do they operate under different business names? Scammer locksmiths often run under different business names to shield their identity.
  3. Is their Google Maps location legitimate? Many locksmith scammers have their Google Maps locations out of gas stations, Starbucks locations, restaurants, or even a middle of a forest (we’ve seen it all). Pull up their location on Google street view and see where their address is, if it’s another business, it’s a fake. If it’s a house, it’s a scam. For example, the Locksmith Calgary scammer presents their address as 724 80 Ave SW, Calgary AB.  This is a fake location.

Locksmith Calgary Scammer at 724 80 Ave SW

  4. Are they licensed? In British Columbia for example, you can check if a locksmith company is licensed or not by inputting their security license number into the following page – Security Licence Status Verification.
  5. Check their phone number! Copy their phone number into Google, does it appear in locations like Toronto and other provinces or states where the locksmith shouldn’t be? It’s a fake.
  6. Ask for the name of the business owner and a link to his or her biography, if the company is hesitant to provide the information of the owner of the company, stay away.
  7. Ask for ID and documentation. Do not let them start work without the company showing their security license, drivers license, insurance, and city business license. If they say “I don’t have it” or “I can send it to you later” or if it looks fake, refuse them doing the work, refuse to pay and send them away.
  8. If the locksmith gets aggressive or pushy with their tactics or if at any time you feel uneasy or uncomfortable, dial 911 immediately.
  9. Do they have a reputation? If you can’t find anything about them online such as a social media following or a clean track record, do not let them work on your property as they are most likely a locksmith scammer. Reputable locksmiths and locksmith business owners like Terry Whin-Yates, the owner of Mr. Locksmith and Mr. ProLock have a clean track record.
  10. Do they show up in an unmarked vehicle, or does their vehicle simply say “locksmith service” ? They are most likely a scam, do not allow them entry or to do any work on your property.
  11. Do they refuse to provide an invoice on the spot? Are there inflated or hidden charges? Refuse to pay and if they get aggressive, dial 911.
  12. Do they have a GST number on the invoice? Check if it’s legitimate here.
  13. Do they list their locksmiths on their website like on a team page with their name and pictures like we do with locksmith Vancouver? If not, you have to wonder why and what they’re hiding.

There are many more warning signs to catch a scammer locksmith. Just use your head and if you can’t determine if they’re fake or not, don’t use them!

One big warning sign which Mariya Savchyshyn should have caught onto was the fact that the scammer locksmith, Locksmith Calgary used the tenant’s phone to phone her. Why wouldn’t they use their own cell number? Because these scammer locksmith’s do not want repeat customers.

Scammer locksmiths such as locksmith Calgary operate on a one-hit basis. They scam you, and then they request an extreme amount of money and force you to pay. Because of the bad experience they provide, they don’t expect you to call back which is why they provide an illegitimate invoice with a fraudulent tax ID, a fake address and at often times as well, a fake phone number.

Thankfully, when the scammer locksmith called Mariya Savchyshyn to say that he’s done, she caught on. Locksmith Calgary refused to provide an itemized invoice for the inflated invoice which was triple the cost, $773.85 as per CBC.

“And I’m like, that’s weird, because usually the customer has to receive an invoice, look at it and then pay, right?” said Savchyshyn.

“I’m an accountant myself, and I know that no one is going to send me money until they see the invoice.”

When Savchyshyn refused to pay without knowing exactly what she was paying for — she says the company threatened to send the bill to a collection agency.

Terry Whin-Yates states that threats are common with scammer locksmiths. We’ve heard from people that the scammer locksmiths have gotten violent with violent threats, verbal threats, death threats and unfortunately much more.

“I just want to warn people because someone … might be scared because that company is scaring people by saying they’ll send them to collections,” she said.

“They might be scared and just pay $800 for a lock, it’s ridiculous.”

A scammer locksmith will have a hard time sending you to a legitimate collections agency. Collection agencies are not stupid, they will ask for supporting documentation which the scammer locksmiths will not have. Do not be fooled by the collection agency trick. If they do send you to collections, you can fight it by signing up to a low-cost service called LegalShield.

Company says invoices issued after payment

“Locksmith Calgary told CBC Calgary they don’t provide a billing service, even for larger companies, and require all payments be made before an invoice is issued.”

This should be an immediate red flag. No legitimate company issues an invoice after payment. We, for example always issue an itemized invoice before the customer pays, because that’s the correct way of doing business. If a customer has a question, we’re always there to answer that question.

It is ok to ask the locksmith who their credit card processor is for collecting payments. Credit card processors are the companies that collect your payment on behalf of the merchant and then provide the merchant with the funds. Names of some credit card processors are: Moneris, Square, Payfirma, Helcim, Stripe. If the locksmith doesn’t know or refuses to answer the question, refuse to pay. If they demand cash, refuse to pay.

“On their website, Locksmith Calgary lists their service call fee as $15 plus labour and hardware costs. A lock change is listed as $35 dollars and a lock re-key as $19.”

For further information go to Mr. Locksmith

Let us talk about three of the must have tools you have to have for your locksmith kit. Every one locksmith must have these three tools: Megapro set, Hex set, and the Tamperproof kit.

The Megapro set

The Megapro set – this is the original and inside it it has the flatheads, the Robinsons, the Phillips and some torques. That is absolutely fantastic. It’s a go-to tool. It’s always there, it’s got the tools.

The next one on my kit – the Hex set.

The Hex set

The Hex set – It’s got all the basic or the most popular sizes in it. You have to have this  screwdriver if you’re a locksmith because so many times you’ve misplaced your Allen keys. This is, a must have, fantastic tool. Especially we’re getting a lot of European made locks out there. you still need complete Allen key sets, but you can just grab this and 90% of the time, if not more, this will do the trick.

The other one is the Tamperproof kit.

The Tamperproof set

Tamperproof kit – This is the MegaPro. What it is, it’s for taking out the tamper-proof screws. It’s got all the most popular tamperproofs and torques an dthe flatheads with the holes inside. It is really, really cool.

So these are the three must have tools for everybody. You gotta have these in your locksmith kit. The original MegaPro, it’s got the most popular screws you’re going to run across every single day. The Hex, because you’re running across a lot of these in locks now, more and more all the time, this will probably, used 90% of the time, you’ll still need an Allen key set but it does the trick. And the Tamperproof. This will do for taking out those one way screws that are flatheads and it’s got the special bit for taking out the one way flatheads. It’s got the hex with the hole in it and the torques with the hole in it. Must have tools for the locksmith. For a beginner or a pro, this is a lifesaver. Have a good day. I hope you enjoyed watching this video.

Unboxing Lock Tech GM Ignition Removal Tools

So we have a new “toy”, from LockTech. Instead of an unboxing, we will call it an “unbagging”. It’s a full set from AccuReader LockTech. And this is the ignition removal tools. A onewhole set, is all four of them. Rather than buy one at a time, just buy the whole thing. It would save you some money. And again, this is an unbagging, not unboxing. It has never been opened, and it will be the first time of us “playing” with it. We’ve been using AccuReader LockTech’s tools for years, so it is the first time getting like the whole little set here.

So get that there. It is a total unbagging. They’re easy to tell apart which is kinda cool. So we’ve got a blue side, a yellow side, a green one with a toy. So we got the whole set here of four. Most of their products,  by the way are extremely well made. So it does the trick. And we’ll show this in action, this is just an unbagging today, we’ll show it in action down the road.

These four different tools, they call it the V1, V2, V3, V4. And this’ll take out the ignitions on a whole lot of cars like the Chevrolet Cruzes, Chevrolet Colorado, Silverado, the Alero. It is an interesting tool for me. It’s removing the ignition cylinders from GM vehicles without drilling or damaging which is very cool. We’ve had their other products even before. Some of these are earlier ones, but they’re as fantastic. Instructions comes with the bag.

All four (4) of GM Ignition Removal Tools Set

We’ll post some videos of us playing with this. So I hope that helps a little bit. We will play with some ignitions later, but right now this is just an unbagging of a brand new “toy” from AccuReader LockTech for us. I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Subscribe to my channel. Also, visit my website and you can see what online locksmith training I have for beginners, intermediate, and advanced, as well as my covert methods of entry and my nondestructive methods of entry.

Mr. Locksmith Abloy High Security Deadbolt

Residents of Vancouver, you have spoken, we have listened. 90% of break-ins are preventable, including at your complex. We’ve put together some recommendations on security upgrades for your complex and for your individual units. The Taymor locks that were installed on your property during the building envelope renovation are not high security. They’re a $10 deadbolt. They are not bump resistant, nor pick resistant. Mr. Locksmith is the largest locksmith company in the Lower Mainland.

If you wish to book an appointment to improve the security of your home  book online.

I am also willing to come to your Strata or Condo AGM or if the owners decide, a security meeting.

Be proactive, do not let a burglar break-in because of a low quality deadbolt installed on your front door.

I train Locksmiths, Military, Police and Government agencies convert and overt methods of entry. The one Deadbolt on the market that has “no known convert” methods of entry and what I consider not only “pick resistant” but “pick proof” is Abloy Protec 2 Deadbolts. Most thieves go for the front door instead of the back door, or the windows. They act like they’re going to buy something, then kick the door in.

Prepping the door for installation of an Abloy Deadbolt, Door Reinforcer and Strike Plate (Vancouver Special)

If I get locked out, I know that it will not be an easy job gaining access through my Abloy High Security Deadbolt Protec 2 deadbolt. Most deadbolts and High Security deadbolts can be drilled open is seconds or minutes. I know that I or anybody will be spending a lot of time, effort and money trying to destroy my Abloy deadbolt.

If you wish to book an appointment to improve the security of house or condo book online.

The face of the Abloy High Security Deadbolt has hardened steel and will chew up a dozen expensive drill bits I use to open safes.

Note: most safes are opened with one drill bit.

I have reinforced my door with a Mag Plate that doubles the strength of the door and I have reinforced the door frame with an 18″ strike with 4″ screws attaching it to the door frame making the door and frame more difficult to force or kick open.

Bottom Line: I want to protect my family, my home and my stuff and I sleep better and go to work or vacation knowing I have the best lock, ABLOY Protec 2 deadbolt installed on my doors.

We at Mr. Locksmith suggest Vancouver residents upgrade to an Abloy High Security Deadbolt deadbolt with the following.

There are Vancouver residents who are concerned with their security and have determined that they will require a high security lock. One of the reasons for this has to do with the problem of “Bump Keys” that have recently been highlighted in the news. A Bump Key is a device that works much like a lock pick. In addition, information regarding its construction and use is available to anyone online. As a matter of fact there are literally hundreds of videos detailing how to make and utilize a Bump Key on the Internet!

To make this situation even more serious, it doesn’t take any real level of expertise to use a Bump Key on your Taymor locks in Greenside Estates, since they are easier to use than a lock pick. Also, since a Bump Key resembles a normal key, law enforcers are less prone to noticing them, as opposed to lock picking tools. For this, and other reasons, bump-resistant and pick-resistant locks are in high demand. For locking systems of this nature, one of the most trusted names in deadbolts and other locking devices is Schlage.

Primus High-Security and Schlage B Series Locks

Schlage offers high-security Primus keys and cylinders and can also provide a 2nd milling that gives the advantage of a seamless integration with a current Schlage lock. This will also deter an unauthorized key replication by requiring an entry that is based on a pre-approved signer’s list.

The Schlage B600 Series is a commercial grade deadlock that is also exceptionally good for residential use especially in Greenside Estates, as well. This series of deadlocks possess bronze or solid brass cylinder collars along with an “ice-pick resistant” security shield. They also have ball bearings made of hardened steel, which are designed to protect their 2 heavy¼” mounting bolts against attacks that use a drill bit.

The entire B-Series (standard strikes) include a reinforcer that will attach to a wood frame with 2 heavy 3-inch screws. This design allows it to resist a kick-in attack. It will also resist cylinder wrenching due to its reinforced collars.

These locking systems can be used for more than just securing an entrance door. They are also perfect for protecting; storage facilities, pool gates, utility spaces and anywhere else where a high level of security is desired. The B600 series deadbolts can also be obtained with a choice of solid brass or bronze trim rings.

Specifications For the Schlage B 600 Series

  • Fits 1-1/2″ and 2-1/8″ lock bores
  • Meets ANSI A156.5, 1992, Grade 1 specifications
  • 1″ Bolt throw with concealed hardened steel roller to resist cutting or sawing the latchbolt
  • 2-3/4″ or 2-3/8″ backset latch
  • Accommodates door thicknesses between 1-3/4″ and 2″

We were asked about how to protect your cars, sheds, and windows and patios.

I have the Top 10 security tips to secure your home during the holiday season.

1- Lock Your Doors

2- Lights, leave the TV on

3- Mail

4- Newspapers/Flyers, etc.

5- Alarms

6- CCTV

7- No Gifts seen from the street under the Christmas Tree

8- Lock your windows, doors, etc. all the time.

9- No Empty boxes outside showing off your new TV etc.

10- Facebook and Social Media

Bonus: Engrave everything, take pictures and serial numbers.

We get it, you are proud of your acquisitions and your possessions. There is no shame in that as you have worked hard to obtain all these items after all. However, remember a constant stream of boxes littered on obvious places in your house such as TV boxes scattered by the trash bin outside, online shopping shipments delivered to your homes, etc. is one way to get you noticed. Remember, robbers usually scout neighborhoods and mark potential homes as targets before committing a robbery and if you are constantly leaving traces of your purchases outside your home, you may be as well as pointing a big red arrow towards your house

Leaving the Doors and Windows Unlocked
Over a third of burglars enter the house through the front door. After knocking to confirm no one is home, they’ll test the door to see if it’s unlocked. An alarming number of times they’ll discover they’ve hit the jackpot and walk right in. Keep your doors locked, even if you’re just running the kids to school or walking the dog. As a law enforcement officer, I took several reports of burglaries that occurred while the homeowner was right in the backyard playing with the kids. So don’t assume your presence will scare him away.

Lack of a Security System
When keeping your home safe, it’s important to leverage all your assets. This could be neighbors, proper gardening, and the police. But with cops on call several miles away, it’s unlikely that a law-abiding passerby will report a break-in. A security system can help automate this whole process for you, using censors to detect intrusion and reporting the incident to the security company, who can contact the proper authorities. You’ll need allies in your fight against burglars, and a security system is your Bat Signal.

Cars:

Realistically, cars will always get broken into if they are outside in your clusters or your visitor parking.  Auto crime is huge in both Surrey and Langley. Because Greenside Estates does not have a garage, we suggest an alarm and a club to secure them. Do not leave valuables inside of your vehicle at any time.

Windows and Patios:

A Greenside Estates resident mentioned that her neighbours living was broken to enter the house. 3M break resistance film that’s also earthquake resistant will help prevent this. Do not leave your windows and patio door unattended. When leaving your property, close all of your windows and lock them. Unlocked doors and unlocked windows are an open invitation to thieves.

Sheds:

Many residents at Greenside Estates own sheds. Shed security depends on the door, but almost exactly the same protection as your front door (when properly secured). We would install a door blocker on your shed that would fit on the front of the shed deadbolt.

Mail Boxes:

Mr. Locksmith replaces and repairs mailboxes in most cases within 24 hours. There is no reason you need to replace everything. Be cost-effective. Contact us and we’ll give you a quote on fixing your mailroom fast, quick and easy.

If you wish to book an appointment to improve the security of your Vancouver home, call (604) 330-9915 or book online.

Changing Ford Remote Battery

This is a very popular Ford key and we call it the “eight cut“. It’s a four button, remote head key. If it’s tons of the Mustangs, or if it’s the whole Ford line, it is all over the place. It’s very popular.  There is no screws on this one. If there is a ring, just get the ring out of the way. To remove the battery, put the quarter, or a flathead in and then just give it a little twist. It will come apart very easily. It’s got weather stripped. And then just flip out the battery. So this one is the CR2032,  which is an extremely popular battery.

To put the battery in, you just gotta slide it in and that’s perfect. So we’ve done a very good weather stripping on this. So there we go. There is our Toyota remote.

Mr. Locksmith CR2032

Steps on how to change a Toyota remote battery:

  • First, see if it had the ring on. If so, just take the ring off.
  • Use your Leatherman or flathead screwdriver. There are no screws. You can tell by looking at the fob.
  • Just give it a little twist (make sure you don’t take much force).
  • And make sure to do it without everything falling every which way.

I like the Energizers and the Duracells for Ford remote battery. I don’t like the dollar store ones, that always seems to be giving people problems. And I don’t like the inexpensive ones. Fits in quite nicely. Nothing else comes apart here. Just slip it in there. Now we gotta get this weather stripping on. Just clip it in there nicely. We can put the ring back on. It goes on pretty quick and easy. Again, it’s an extremely popular remote. A four button, Ford remote head key which we call the “eight cut“. Again. very easy to do. The customer was broken into in East Vancouver. The burglars just kicked the door in. Very common Break and Enter in Vancouver. You can see the door was broken and the cheap Off-Shore deadbolt just failed. Unfortunately, too many of these inexpensive deadbolts ($10-$45) are installed in Vancouver, sometimes on new condos and new buildings.

Mike from Mr. Locksmith Vancouver rather than replace the door he installed a Mag Plate / Door Reinforcer (doubles the strength of the door) and a new Schlage Deadbolt (B660) with the Commerical Grade C123 Key and Cylinder. The Schlage Deadbolt is one of our favorite deadbolts.

We call this our Vancouver Special. The door frame did not need a 18″ Strike Plate installed on the door frame because it was metal.

A huge market right now for locksmiths is Emergency school lockdown procedures or “Active Shooter” as well as other institutions and even some commercial applications. However, for schools, there are so many security products on the market and a lot of it is just useless. Schlage has a great system. They call this the “classroom security function.” Basically, when you think about it, it is an Institutional lock so you have keys on both sides and it’s a classroom function. So again, you have keys on both sides. It’s a classroom function, but it can be locked down from the inside if there is an emergency. The Classroom teacher would have an “Emergency key” and if the alarm system or the speaker system sounds for “Lock Down Procedures” the teacher would from the inside of the door lock the door. From the inside, even though it’s got a lock on the inside, you can always open the door from the inside and it shows you which way if you can put the key in. From the outside, it’s a classroom function. When I put the key in, from the outside it becomes a storeroom function! So it’s always locked, you can’t get out, but the inside you can still come and go as you please. So, for during the day, when the school, the janitor, or the teacher, whoever unlocks the door, they do classic classroom function. Let’s unlock it. The kids can come and go as they please, it’s not a problem. If there’s a problem and you have to go to emergency lockdown procedures, all the teacher has to do is put their key in on the inside, turn it, that way, to the lock position. Now, it’s a class, it’s turned it into a storeroom function now. They can’t get in from the outside, just the teacher just simply just turn it and from the inside, you can still get out. So no matter what happens, you could always open the door from the inside and get out. From the outside, you just lock down the door. Quick, fast, efficient, easy upgrade for the school. When the “All Clear” is sounded and after the situation is over, the teacher can just turn it back into the classroom function, it’s just regular, again back to where it was. For a quick easy upgrade to your school, for emergency lockdown procedures, I highly recommend this is the Schlage, Schlage ND-Series and it’s called the “Classroom Security Function.”

In conclusion, the lock is an Institutional lock and it’s called the Classroom security. Love it, it’s absolutely fantastic for the schools. Quick, easy upgrade. Yes, there are more secure products we can install but again, for quickly getting your school retrofitted into complying with the emergency lockdown procedures, this is a fantastic product.

Abloy Deadbolts and Master Keying | Mr. Locksmith Blog http://www.becomealocksmith.info/abloy-deadbolts-master-keying-mr-locksmith-blog/ Sun, 15 Oct 2017 16:22:55 +0000 https://www.mrlocksmith.com/?p=3444 Abloy Deadbolts and Master Kekeying | Mr. Locksmith Blog

For further information go to www.mrlocksmith.com

Today we are going to talk about my favorite deadbolt which is the Abloy Deadbolt as well as master keying. I like this deadbolt so much, it is installed on my house. I am paranoid, I admit it, I always have been, I always want the best I can have on my house and my business and my camper. So I have the Abloy Deadbolt, 100% deadbolt on my house, and I use all the padlocks on everything else I have. So that Mike from Mr. Locksmith Burnaby is probably our top locksmith on Abloy, he does amazing things with this. It’s absolutely fantastic,  I will let Mike discuss the Abloy Protec 2 Deadbolt.

Okay, this is the 100% Abloy and it has a Pick Resistant UL 437 rating.

Furthermore,  there is no known Covert methods of entry on this lock. A lot of people are trying to figure out how to do this, there are no known methods, so when people say it can be hacked, or picked or anything if you’ve seen all my videos, I hack, and pick and get into everything. This has no known Covert entry methods, that’s why I love it so much.

The front of the deadbolt is hardened too. The Abloy Protect 2 deadbolt is a pick, bump and drill-resistant lock. Nothing is 100% drill-proof, but this is deadbolt is extremely difficult to hard one to drill. The Abloy deadbolt is fire rated to 20 minutes.

You are not going through this lock, and it’s basically, it’s a nightmare too, for, and if you look at our video on how to circumvent with drills and other methods of entry.

Cordless Grinding to defeat the Abloy Deadbolt, this is not a fun job, but you’ll see that in the other videos. But again, this is my favorite lock. Mike installs tons of these. The next favorite would be, now we have a lot of customers who have existing, these are the B660 heavy-duty Schlage deadbolts, and we can retrofit almost anything to an Abloy cylinder.

We just modify the Schlage Deadbolt B660 lock, this is my second most favorite deadbolt because of the versatility, but we put a lot of Abloy on retrofitting, upgrading existing systems.

One example here us we gave taken the Abloy cylinder and keys, and then replace it into the Schlage B660 deadbolt. As you can see the handle again, it’s a smaller version, and you can hear a difference in the, you know, just the sound that’s making the bolt coming in and out. You can just hear the difference.

“The sound of power.”

The two locks in the video have been keyed it up to a master key system, which means so this key will operate this one lock in the lower end, and then this one here will operate both of them, okay?

Basically, master keying is, you can have one key fit two or 2,000 doors, so the one key would fit everything, as well as you still have the individual keys that fit each office or each apartment, so that’s master keying, but there are some interesting options you can do with an Abloy.

The master key system, the one key that operates both will be something for your, say, a house with a rental unit. So the rental unit can try their key, and not be able to unlock your upstairs unit for example, but you can have the control of the whole house at any given time for an emergency.

So you can have, what I do with a lot of times, is a lot of people have rental units to help pay the mortgage, so you have a master key will fit the upper unit as well as the lower rental unit, and so the, we’ll call it the “A” key for upstairs, the “B” key for downstairs. The “B” key won’t fit upstairs, the “A” key won’t fit downstairs, however, you have your master key will fit the “A” and the “B” so you can give your kids will have the “A” key, they cannot go into the rental unit, and you can have the master key that you have and you can go upstairs or downstairs at your discretion.

On this stand we have three more deadbolts, Schlage deadbolt, the B660 version which is the one I just showed you earlier, but on the lower two, same idea, it’s master keyed, but with the S123 series keys that went with it, but for this one here, again, we retrofitted the deadbolt with an Abloy cylinder, but on this one you have a key that locks and unlocks, ideal for a business owner to have. But say you have a night-shift, that once they lock up, they cannot come back in. So you have a key that will allow you to only lock it at night, and once it’s locked, will not allow you to unlock it again. So it could be for like, the last person on shift, or it could be for the cleaner that leaves at the end of the day, and you have a special key also that you could have, for opening only, for say the morning shift guy that can have this, all right? So those are the flexibility of an Abloy system, you can have like what, millions of combinations of keys.

On my lock and master key  system, I have a master key opens up the house, the camper, and all the little locks on the camper, and opens up the shop, and my various padlocks, and I also have the home key which will only work the house locks, and then I have the store key that only opens up the store. Interesting option though, and this is in the early days of Abloy, you had to, in the old days you had to have a key that locked, and a key that unlocked, they would not do both, nowadays we have one key can lock and unlock, but it’s a nice option to add, where again, where the morning staff, they unlock and the evening staff can lock. And so the evening staff can’t come in the morning, or other times, and unlock the store.

An interesting function and we have quite a few customers like that, so they have, they unlock in the morning and the staff can lock up, and they don’t have to worry about the staff coming in at other times of the day or night. Wonder if I could do that with my kids? So again, it’s very, very versatile, it’s probably the most versatile system. The advantage of an Abloy master key system is when you master key any of the traditional locks, it actually decreases security. It makes it easier to pick open the lock or have what we call ghost keys, other keys that will open the lock by accident. With an Abloy system, I think it’s in the billions of combination, millions for sure is when you, the more you master key, we can do a great-great-great Grandmaster,

Grandmaster, Master key, “A” keys, “B” keys, everything else, it doesn’t decrease the security of the lock. So traditionally, master keying one of these locks will not make it easier to open.

The padlocks, the prices are not bad for what you have, pick-resistant, a shim will not open them, drill-resistant and hardened steel, they’re a fantastic lock.

Actually, I am going to get an Abloy Padlock engraved and I’m going put this on the Love Locks Bridge. This will be my “Love Lock.”  Vancouver now has a Love Lock Statues, but what I really want is when I go to Paris, will go to the proper bridge, don’t forget there are two love lock bridges in France. Look at my other video, you’ll understand. But I’m gonna put this on, throw the key away, and the lock will be there forever, ’cause no one can pick it off. I am so tempted looking at that, have you seen it yet, the love lock?

I went down and looked at all the love locks, and I’m just looking at it going, “Geez, I could pick like, 99% of these,”- It’s on my front door.

Abloy is the only lock for the deadbolt that has created a locking thumb-turn. Leave it in unlock position, of course, when you go for vacation, for example. It’s ideal for doors that are close to like, a patio door, or something close to a window.

The Locking thumb-turn function is a good option and again I have that on my door.

It stops somebody from breaking a window, reaching in and unlocking your door, say, if you’re not home or on vacation. So what it does is actually, you put it on a neutral position in an unlocked position, you key it off so that the thumb-turn is locked off, so it won’t turn, you step outside and you lock the door, and you leave, and then so your door is secure now without worrying about somebody unlocking the door from inside, and even if they do break in to your house, they’re not gonna be able to unlock that door to carry out your television set, or whatever they take these days, or your sofa, or your couch or something, right? Because they can’t swing the door open.

– Traditionally I would have a single-cylinder deadbolt, and I’d have a double-cylinder deadbolt above it, so when I went away I’d lock the double lock, and the problem is with a double cylinder deadbolt is you have to have a key to get out. With this locking thumb-turn, which I’ve put on my place, so when I go away I engage the function, I can lock the door, if they break in through a window, or coming through the patio door, or somewhere, they may be able to break in, but they can’t go out my front door, or any of my doors, and cart my stuff off. So I just don’t want my stuff going missing. So the locking thumb-turn is almost like a double, but I don’t have to worry about the fire safety issue because I’m only doing it when I leave the house, and I lock it, and I know it’s like a double lock. They can smash the windows, they can’t reach through and open, it’s a fantastic option, I really like it. Any disadvantages to this lock?

Key control: Nobody can cut this key, except for, we have, this is a Mr. Locksmith keyway, you can’t go anywhere and get this key cut. Even another Abloy dealer will not do it, they can’t do it, they don’t have the blank, and that’s one of the big problems is, with a lot of locks for businesses and everything else is key control. You have total, total key control on this, it’s patented ’til like, 2026 or something.

The Abloy Protect 2 locks have key control, pick-resistance, no one’s gonna get through this door unless they chop their way through it, and no one’s going to have a key to get in, you can’t get this cut anywhere, at all.

The key machine that cuts this key is, every key is cut individually, you’re not duplicating. You can’t take this key and say, “Hey, “I wanna duplicate it, put it side-by-side “on a duplicating machine,” you just cannot do that, and there is a floating, like, this is a Protec 2 keyway which means it has a ball-bearing within the key itself, and that is part of the locking system. Without that ball-bearing floating in there, it will not even turn the cylinder on the outside portion of it. So that in itself is a locking mechanism. So I had keys that accidentally had the ball-bearing pop out for some reason. I don’t know what they were doing to it, but it won’t even let them in anymore. The other thing is, yeah, these are very strong keys.

Today, we are going to talk about key control by using high-security Abloy keys that can’t be duplicated or unauthorized duplication. In the old days, you’d stamp a Kwikset key with do not copy but they could take the key to the local shoe repair guy and get a key cut. So, “do not copy” is absolutely meaningless on a regular key. It’s not worth nothing, and we tell people that. However, when you get a proper system like and Abloy, Schlage Primus or Medeco lock that have the patented key control, nobody can cut the keys unless you are the authorized person. It’s a special key Patented High-Security Key. The Abloy is key particularly good because it can not be cut by anything other than an Abloy key machine. So, if we’re cutting them, and even another authorized Abloy dealer will not cut this key for anybody at all because they just lose the whole ability to sell Abloy and a big fine from the manufacture written into the seller agreement.

The Abloy keys are high security. Each one is cut individually on a special Abloy machine. You can’t just get a machine and say, “Hey, you know, can you put this one here?” Which is a cut key and a key blank and just duplicate it like traditional ones. You can’t do that. This is Abloy Protec 2. It’s a latest technology. It does have a ball bearing inside, and that is integral in locking and unlocking your door. So if it ever pops out, which it shouldn’t, that alone will stop you from opening that door. Abloy Protec 2, when you purchase a lock, you will get a registration card that will match a two-part registration card, where you keep one part and I will keep one part, and when you reorder, you will have to present that card in order to get duplicate copies of that. So, anybody who phones my number and the key and says “I want a duplicate copy of this key” will not get a key. It could be your plumber, your electrician nanny, cook, whatever. It doesn’t really matter.

The bottom line is, this is a patented key control system, it requires a special key machine to cut it, you’re not going get this cut by the local hardware store or the shoemaker. No one is going to be able to cut this. The specs are so tight, we are not gonna see them in the foreseeable future.

On 3-D printer or other methods of key duplication. This total key control, when they dig up our civilization, I keep on hearing, “Oh, keys are old.” “They’re gonna go passe.” “We’re all gonna go electronic locks.” No. When it gets right down to it if you have to secure something you are going do it with a High-Security Lock and key. If you want to be totally secure, you are going to have something that has patented key control. This is a high security Abloy. It’s the Protec 2. Nobody can cut the keys except for the authorized dealer only with the authorized cardholder. This is a patented system, and again, I have it on everything. I have it in the Locksmith and my house. Whether it’s a master key, regular key, or whatever. The Abloy is one of the best systems out there for key control and physical security for your home or office.
