Changing Ford Remote Battery

This is a very popular Ford key and we call it the “eight cut“. It’s a four button, remote head key. If it’s tons of the Mustangs, or if it’s the whole Ford line, it is all over the place. It’s very popular.  There is no screws on this one. If there is a ring, just get the ring out of the way. To remove the battery, put the quarter, or a flathead in and then just give it a little twist. It will come apart very easily. It’s got weather stripped. And then just flip out the battery. So this one is the CR2032,  which is an extremely popular battery.

To put the battery in, you just gotta slide it in and that’s perfect. So we’ve done a very good weather stripping on this. So there we go. There is our Toyota remote.

Mr. Locksmith CR2032

Steps on how to change a Toyota remote battery:

  • First, see if it had the ring on. If so, just take the ring off.
  • Use your Leatherman or flathead screwdriver. There are no screws. You can tell by looking at the fob.
  • Just give it a little twist (make sure you don’t take much force).
  • And make sure to do it without everything falling every which way.

I like the Energizers and the Duracells for Ford remote battery. I don’t like the dollar store ones, that always seems to be giving people problems. And I don’t like the inexpensive ones. Fits in quite nicely. Nothing else comes apart here. Just slip it in there. Now we gotta get this weather stripping on. Just clip it in there nicely. We can put the ring back on. It goes on pretty quick and easy. Again, it’s an extremely popular remote. A four button, Ford remote head key which we call the “eight cut“. Again. very easy to do. Changing Toyota Remote Battery

This is a three-button Toyota remote. Very, very simple. Just lock, unlock and it’s got the panic button on the inside, which I didn’t see at first. This one’s for the older Toyotas. When you look at it, there’s no screws, there’s no screws anywhere on it. It’s pretty much sealed except for at the back, you can see. Not a dime would fit in that, so we use a little flat-head screwdrivers. I’m gonna use my Leatherman. But, you just can’t twist it out. You gotta slide it out because it’s got the little tabs over it. It has an extremely popular battery. The battery is a CR2032. Popular for a lot of different remotes, remote-head keys and proxes.

To put the battery in, you just gotta slide it in and that’s perfect. So we’ve done a very good weather stripping on this. So there we go. There is our Toyota remote.

  • Just give it a little twist (make sure you don’t take much force).
  • And make sure to do it without everything falling every which way.

There we go. That’s a nice one. Just make sure that you didn’t spill everything when you twist it. Again, we have to slide this battery out. Don’t twist and pull. We’ve got little metal tabs over the battery. Just slide it out, and it comes out nicely. The CR2032, is an extremely popular for Toyota remote battery. And, I mostly just use Energizers or Duracell batteries. I don’t like the dollar store stuff that much as I prefer the better quality. The dollar store doesn’t usually sell Duracells, or Energizers. I usually find Walmart has the cheapest, the least expensive parts. If you lose track of which way it goes because there’s no positive or negative, few tips – The little contacts always go to the opposite to the plus (or the writing). Just slide the battery back in. Slide it in nicely. And then just clip it together. On the video, it came apart a lot nicer the second time around. I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Subscribe to my channel.

Yale NexTouch™ Keypad Access Lock | Mr. Locksmith Blog http://www.becomealocksmith.info/yale-nextouch-keypad-access-lock-mr-locksmith-blog/ Sat, 07 Oct 2017 01:48:18 +0000 https://www.mrlocksmith.com/?p=3395 Yale NexTouch™ Keypad Access Lock | Mr. Locksmith Blog

The Yale Nextouch is an interesting product. I haven’t been a fan in the past of the Yale electronic locks. However, a customer required several locks for public/customer washrooms and the Yale Lock meet the requirements and price point. The customer-specific reason is they want a restroom lock so that the junkies do not get into the washroom and shoot up. Welcome to the West coast and one of our biggest problems in public washrooms is junkies overdosing in washrooms.  Mostly we install deadbolts with the displayed privacy function. However, we have a lot of clients and customers who want a form of access control with key over-ride.

At the end of the day, customer needs some kind of accountability of who goes into the bathroom, but it’s just not left open. The customer can just enter a number to unlock it to let them. But because it’s a restroom, the only way you’re going to lock a door with something like this would be to put a barrel bolt on the door or another deadbolt.

The Yale Nextouch has a “Privacy mode.” The customer closes the door and holds the “Privacy mode” button a voice from the locks states “Privacy Mode Enabled.” So now anybody from outside has no access,  no matter what pin number is being used from the outside, it will not let you in because here you’re inside it will always tell you that somebody’s trying to get in, but it won’t allow them to pin their way in. Now the only time this is disengaged, it’s not because you pull the handle to open the door, but when the door swings open. The lock resets back to a storeroom function.

The lock is a heavy-duty design and ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 certification. Good lock for, Office doors, Restrooms, storage closets, or a scalable solution for a multi-family, retail or corporate property. The lock is upgradable access control to wireless ZigBee / Z-Wave or Data-on-Card technologies as system requirements change and grow.

Again, this is very simple. It’s a pin with a code with a key override. You have to install the door sensor to enable the “Privacy Mode.” Presently, no master pin code over-ride, to open if someone is inside would require the key to over-ride the pin code function to open the door.

In conclusion, the price point is very, very good. The lock appears to be quite a heavy-duty unit. Normally, I would probably recommend the NDE but it does not have the pin code function. One problem is the user has to hold that button down for three seconds to enable the “Privacy Mode Function.”  The unit does come with a sticker you can put on the door or lock on how to use it.

Schlage makes great Comercial Grade locks but some of their Residential Locks sold in Hardware stores are just too easy to open. The method shown here is considered to be “Overt” or “Forced Entry” because you can see the small hole drilled in the deadbolt lock case. However, the hole can easily be sealed or covered up.

Unfortunitly, most Residential Grade Electronic or Keyless Entry locks available at your local Hardware store are very vulneaable to covert, overt or forced entry.

I was not impressed with the August Smart Lock. They did fix an earlier critical vulnerability security flaw that potentially allowed an intruder to use a mobile app to find an August lock, based on an identification number that Bluetooth devices often broadcast wirelessly and then open the lock.

Most if not all Electronic Deadbolts sold in Hardware Stores and now Electronic stores have minor to major security flaws. I have been testing some upgrades but unless you need the Home Automation feature of remote or keyless entry stay away. However, talk to your local locksmith and hopefully they can guide to a good lock.

I will have more reviews coming soon and the one lock electronic lock I may install on my house! (with modifications).

Expert Locksmith Terry Whin-Yates Talks Electronic Locks in the New York Times http://www.becomealocksmith.info/expert-locksmith-terry-whin-yates-talks-electronic-locks-new-york-times/ http://www.becomealocksmith.info/expert-locksmith-terry-whin-yates-talks-electronic-locks-new-york-times/#respond Thu, 30 Oct 2014 03:51:49 +0000 http://mrlocksmith.com/?p=2061 Expert Locksmith Terry Whin-Yates Talks Electronic Locks in the New York Times “Losing the Key”

Imagine how much easier your life would be if you could unlock your front door from the touch of your iPhone.

No need to fish through your pockets for your keys while holding grocery bags at the front door.

Imagine having complete home control at your fingertips with an electronic security solution like a keyless entry door lock.

Even in this modern age of technology, the common house key has remained a staple and has been surprisingly resistant to change.

The hands-free ease of unlocking the door with keyless technology is making its way in the market as door locks are now entering the “smart” world.

President and chief executive of Mr. LockSmith, Terry Whin-Yates, has been featured in the New York Times article ‘Lose the Key’ [link to New York Times Article] explaining his use of electronic door locks.

Intelligent security for your home

Home automation systems and keyless entry is possible with the click of your iPhone or other smartphone technology.

Although Mr. Whin-Yates is a 3rd generation locksmith and an outspoken voice in the industry, (several videos showing the weakness of the Smart Key locks “Opened in less than 10 seconds“) he isn’t hesitant to replace the standard lock-and-key. His front door has an electronic lock by Schlage  that he hooked up to a home-automation system.

Mr. Whin-Yates states in the New York Times article how convenient it is for him to use his smartphone to control his home-automation system:

“I can unlock my door, I can look at my house and I can turn lights on and off, all from my iPhone,” Mr. Whin-Yates said.

You might not like to carry a big set of keys around – one for your door, your car, your bike lock and more.  But, I know you’re probably thinking about the practical concerns about going keyless…

What if your smartphone is lost or stolen?

What if your phone’s battery dies?

Each smart-lock maker has addressed these questions in their own way. The technology is still in it’s infancy and there is more work to be done to ease our concerns with the keyless entry.

Don’t throw away your keys just yet

Although keyless entry can make your life a lot easier – a backup traditional lock works just fine to keep your home secure when you’re away from your home for an extended period of time.

Take it from the professional locksmith, Mr. Whin-Yates, to install a backup lock. He has installed a second, mechanical Schlage High Security Primus deadbolt for when he is away from the home for an extended period of time.

“The key is still the backup,” Mr. Whin-Yates said. The key may be slowly disappearing, he added, but it will continue to be in use for a long time to come.

Traditional keys have given us an all-purpose metaphor (the key to success, the key to happiness) and they will still have a place in society for a very long time.

“When they dig up our civilization,” Mr. Whin-Yates said, “they’re still going to find a bunch of bones and a set of keys.”

Note: Terry Whin-Yates favorite electronic residential lock and the lock on his house and his Moms is the Schlage Electronic  Deadbolt (also recommend by Consumer Reports).
